Patti Smith
Patti Smith is an American Musician, Writer, Artist and Photographer born in 1946. Popularly titled the "Godmother of Punk" by the media, she had an immense influence on the Punk Rock scene in the 1960s ans 70s in New York, where she had her artistic coming-of-age in a symbiotic relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. After initially focussing on poetry and the visual arts, Smith's reading of one of her poems at St. Mark's church accompanied by the sounds of an electric guitar proved revolutionary, paving the way for her musical career and that of many others. After a 20 year hiatus during which she married fellow musiscian Fred Sonic Smith and raised their children, Smith has entered the public once again, this time focussing on writing and photography while still regularly touring.
